Descriptions
The Degree Programme in Technology Competence Management is a working life oriented programme which is targeted at Bachelors of Engineering and aims at enhancing the ability to develop in leadership and expert tasks that require good competence and at promoting critical thinking, creative problem solving, initiative as well as teamwork and networking skills.
The Degree Programme develops especially technologically oriented business knowledge, supervisory competence and project management skills. Working during studies and linking the learning assignments and the thesis, implemented as a development project, with the student’s work duties make it possible to develop the operations of the employer organization at the same time.
Internationalization is based on assignments and on the student’s needs. The thesis may be linked with an international aspect, for example by participating in an international conference or seminar concerning the field. The international perspective also supports the requirements of language skills for completing the degree. Some parts of the teaching are given in English and a great deal of the assignment source material is from international professional and academic publications.
Career opportunities:
After graduating from a university of applied sciences, many professional engineers find employment in positions where the main focus is on technical competence and its development and application. As their careers proceed, some of them concentrate on technical expert tasks, while others focus on supervisor, project management, marketing and organizational development tasks, for instance. Typical job titles for engineers who have completed the Degree Programme in Technology Competence Management are:
Possible jobtitles after graduation:
Design engineer, production engineer, supervisor, marketing manager, product manager, production manager, quality manager, product development manager and different specialist tasks.
Postgraduate study opportunities:
The studies provide eligibility for further scientific studies. Universities may set conditions on granting rights for further studies in the form of, for instance, supplementary transitional studies.
Objective
The Degree Programme in Technology Competence Management is carried out in cooperation with business life and other Master’s Degree Programmes in management, engineering and technology. The pedagogic foundation of the programme is an innopeda®-based continuum of learning that combines learning by doing and applied research, development and innovation activities with the development needs of the working life.
The studies consist of advanced professional studies (15 ECTS), of complementary studies (10 ECTS), of optional studies (5 ECTS) and of a thesis (30 ECTS).
Advanced professional studies include research method studies and professional studies in technology competence management. Complementary studies include studies about HR management and finance and accounting. Students may further deepen or expand their competence by choosing courses in management, sales, project operations or research methods, for instance, as optional studies.
The planned length of the studies is 1.5 years and they are designed to be carried out while working full-time. Studies are organized as part-time studies. There will be two contact days per month. The studies emphasize community orientation and teamwork. At the very beginning of the studies, the student prepares an individual study plan (ISP) which is closely related to the implementation of the thesis.
Development
The studies are realised as multiform learning, and there are primarily two days of contact teaching per month. The studies have been planned to be conducted alongside work, and their duration is about 1,5 years, but flexible solutions also support faster completion. In the early stages of studying, the student drafts a personal ISP and a thesis realisation plan.
Further information
The objectives for skill levels in a Master’s Degree are based on the legislation concerning universities of applied sciences and the European Qualification Framework (EQF). The level corresponding to a Master’s Degree is level 7. The assessment criteria for each course are described in its implementation plan. Performance requirements vary depending on objectives, content and method of implementation.
The courses and the thesis are assessed on a scale of 0 to 5. Assessment focuses on competence and its development. The course assessment methods vary according to the objectives of the study module. Assessment may focus on the outcome (for instance, a report or a seminar presentation), on the process (the student’s own activity and actions during the course) or on both. Students receive regular feedback on their performance from their teachers. Peer- and self-assessment as well as commissioner feedback on performance are also utilized. The degree assessment framework is used as the basis for the assessment.
The Degree Programme will be developed according to the principles of continuous improvement. In the development work, feedback from the students and working life as well as their initiatives have a key role. Feedback is collected with, for instance, student questionnaires and group-specific development discussions.
