Objective

After completing the course the student:
* understands the different aims of leadership in relation to the individual, the team and the organisation
* is able to reflect and develop him/herself as a leader
* can use different methods for solving conflicts
* can lead and engage individuals in an ever-changing and global environment

Articles, videos and other reference materials provided during the contact sessions. Additional references based on students' own preferences.

Teaching methods

This course includes activating learning and teaching methods and also multidisciplinarity, which means that the students are encouraged in training strategic thinking, sharing own expertise and learning together. The studies consist of contact sessions and distance assignments using Optima. In addition to individual learning, collaborative learning in teams is applied to meet the needs of working life.

Exam schedules

There is no traditional exam. The deadline of the learning porfolio submission will be communicated to the students during the course.

Group discussions and assignments, individual learning portfolio, introductory lectures, possible expert visitors.

Student workload

The main deliverable of the course is an individual learning portfolio focusing on the development of one's own leadership knowledge, skills and attitudes. This portfolio is based on several assignments to be delivered before, between and after the contact sessions. The assignments are supported by collaborative group activities during the contact sessions.
NOTE: A preassignment shall be completed before the first contact day. The assignment will be published in Optima two weeks before the first contact session.
The extent of the course is 5 ECTS credits.

The contact sessions take place at Novia University of Applied Sciences (Henrikinkatu 7).
