Objective

The student can both orally and in writing:
- describe the content and structure of his/her studies, training and working experience,
- introduce the operations and organization of a company and tell about different types of company forms as well as types of duties within a company,
- compile a professional job application and act in a job interview,
- communicate using right formality, vocabulary and phrases through a purchasing process (from an enquiry to an order, complaints, adjustments),
- analyze and tell about current business news in various Finnish media
- make and maintain contacts by phone, email, face-to-face

Content

Telling about the student’s own education, training and work experience. The student understands and can use appropriate business vocabulary and phrases both orally and in writing when describing the operations of a company, business environment, products and processes.
Making and maintaining contacts, discussing current business news, practising presentation skills. Compiling a job application and CV, acting in a job interview. Documentation used in a purchasing process.

Basic study material is available on learning platform but additional material can be used for projects

Assessment methods and criteria

As the course is completely about Business Communication skills , the final grade is based on active participation in class and teamwork as well as the completed assignments. Many assignmets come naturally from the client but some are done for individual use

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

Participation very irregular. Documents not returned or very poor in content and accuracy.
Less than 80% presence. There will be no extra/replacing assignments
Late returns will result in lower grade immediately after failing the deadline.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Participation is not active and assignmnets are poor in content and style. Some major faults in spelling, grammar and terminology. Very short self and peer assessment

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Participation is active. Documentation professional but content and style are ordinary. Use of vocabulary somewhat restricted. Sees the requirements of the context but does not always know how to react properly. Self and peer asssessment lack argumentation

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Participation is very active. All documents are written with accuracy and appropriate style. Pronunciation and communication fluent. Vocabulary very wide and business-like. Student can see the requirements of the context and apply his knowledge into skills. Self and peer assessment well-grounded
