Objective

The student is able to
- distinguish between the competitive requirements in international business vs. domestic business
- define different business models in international business
- describe various business strategies when entering and operating in international business
- understand the requirements for marketing in the international business environment
- acquire the needed information for doing business in the EU.

Materials

Material is available on Optima but students find their own material ,depending on their case

Teaching methods

Student(s) do an Development Project in which s/he analyzes and develops his/her own organization's internationalisation policy
Alternatively s/he can deccribe a case of his/her own interest area comcernin International Business
This course is integrated with Intercultural Communication
The delivered documents can in some cases be in Finnish
Eventual company visit is included. Project work needs adequate research

International connections

Innopeda's cornerstones: internationalisation, work-life connections, team-learning and process learning are applied as there are contact sessions for group discussions which enhance the project work

Assessment methods and criteria

The final assessment is based on the returned project report and oral presentation
Continuous oral peer and teacher feedback during the process
Final assessment by teacher

Project Report and Presentation that show practical application of theoretical frameworks in an authentic context. (60%)
Participation in class sessions and constructive discussions (20%)
Peer feedback, ,sharing of own expertise, seff-assessment. (20%)

The student is able name some different models of internationalisation,
The student can find a focus for his/her case
The student is able to describe the used frameworks and show of how they can be used in practice.
The student is an active member of the team and demonstrates ability to communicate and function as a member of an team.
The contents and style of the report and presentation are adequate but the deeper analysis and development steps are lacking

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student is able to describe different feasible models of internationalisation in his/her case
The student can define his/her own case (need+action plan)
The student is able to describe the used frameworks and shows of how they can be used in practice.
The student is an active member of the team and demonstrates ability to communicate and function as a member of an team.
The contents and style of documents show understanding of the needs
The research work is done but development ideas and analysis are lacking

The student shows professionalism and insight in
distinguishing between the competitive edges of his/her case
give some defined and feasible strategies in international business
shows through understanding the requirements in the international business
The report and presentation give a clear view of the case and also suggest concrete steps of development. The analysis and anticipated changes and/or risks are analyzed
