Objective

The student is able to
- Recognize the potential of the web for company’s sales and marketing operations
- Explain how web traffic interacts with the web pages and how to use it for the company’s benefit
- Name the core terminology and indicators of web marketing
- Plan actions to increase visitor traffic and engagement
- Apply the basics of web analytics

- Features and capabilities of a well-working website
- Visibility of a webpage, SEO (search engine optimization)
- Tools and metrics for website optimization

Course material will be available in Optima, mostly based on content from the web.

Student workload

The course is divided into 4 different modules: 1) Introduction, 2) Creating a web site, 3) Creating web content and 4) Analytics. Each module consists a prerecorded video with basic info complemented with additional material ro give more in- depth understanding of the topic at hand. After watching the video the team works on the pre-assigned assignment which will be commented on pre-recorded videos. The course will begin with an all-hands webinar and will also end in an all-hands webinar where questions and answers can be handled in a live meeting.

This is a basic level introduction course. If the student has prior experience in setting up and designing a web site, please contact Timo Luukka for evaluation of alternative ways to pass the course.

Assessment methods and criteria

Grading will be based on participation in team work, the quality of the team work and the personal eExam.

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

In order to pass the course the student must participate in team work, have a passing grade from both the team assignments and the eExam.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The assignments follow the instructions but do not evidence any depth in learning and mastering of the topic. The objectives for the assignments have been met only partially.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

In addition to the requirements for grades 1-2:
* The students work independently building their work on the vocabulary and the skills on the trade.
* The work is ambitious and shows a strive for quality.
* The choice of information and facts and their application shows professional judgement.
* Justification for the choices made and their presentation is clear and logical.
* The work contains critical thinking and analysis.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the requirements for grades 1-4:
* The work is based on facts.
* The methods and outcome of the work is innovative.
* The work is of high quality and shows critical thinking.
