Objective

The participants are able to describe the micro and macro molecular structures’ effect on material characteristics and behavior and are able to describe the special features of each material.

Materials

Course book: Callister, William D. and Rehwisch, David G.. Materials Science and Engineering.
Additional material will be shared during the course.
Steps to Circular Economy: Material given during lessions and material searched from Internet.

Teaching methods

There are contact lessons, laboratory work and independent work in this course. Students will be working in study gropus.
In Steps to Circular Economy: contact lessons and independend work individually and in Teams.

Exam schedules

Exam 10.2.2020.
Re-exam: last friday of March and last friday of April. Dates will confirmed in Optima.
Steps to Circular Economy: no exam. Participation in contact lesson required.

Students will work in teams.

Task 1: Material groups
Task 2: Mechanical testing
Task 3: Test method for simulating ageing
Task 4: Laboratory tests and report
Task 5: Stress and strain curve
Task 6: Analysis of DSC and TGA-curves
Task 7: Terms and concepts
Steps to Circular Economy: homework after each contact lesson. Consepts, and topical issues from the field of Circular economy.

Content scheduling

Contents: material characteristics, material test methods, Steps to Circular economy 1 and material technology English.
Basics of Material Tech: weeks: 2-7.
Steps to Circular Economy: weeks 3-15, every second week.

Assessment methods and criteria

The grade (Basics of Material Technology) will be based on the exam (50%) and the laboratory work and report (50%).
Steps to Circular Economy: the grade will be the mean value of all the tasks.
Final grade is 3/5 x Basics of Material Technology + 2/5 Steps to Circular Economy
