Objective
After completing the course the student: i
-is able to explain the basic concepts of network security
-secure a network against threats and attacks.

-Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA)
-implementing firewalls with Cisco routers and security appliances
-implementing Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)
-securing the Local Area Network

Teaching methods
Self-study, laboratory exercises, module exams
Exam schedules
The student can take the laboratory and theory exams when she/he is finished with laboratory exercises and study material.
Student workload
The students should spend approx. half of her/his time working with the laboratory exercises.
Content scheduling
The students will work at their own pace; no schedule is given by the instructor.

Assessment methods and criteria
The course is evaluated based on the laboratory exercises (% completed), online module exams, online final exam and a practical laboratory exam. A minimum weighted score of 60% is required. The weights are
Laboratory work 15%
Module exams 15%
Online final 20%
Lab exam 50%
In addition, the student can gain up to 8% extra points by completing the lab exam ahead of schedule.
It is possible to complete the laboratory exercises by either doing the individual tasks from chapters 1 to 10, or the comprehensive lab from chapter 11. If the latter is chosen, the lab exam must be completed before the Spring Holiday.
