Basics of Pharmacotherapy 3 cr LäPE
Students will
- Become familiar with the basics of pharmacology and pharmacy
- Know how to describe an effective, safe, appropriate and economic pharmaceutical service and pharmacotherapy in the context of social welfare and health care
- Comprehend the importance of ethical perspectives, regulations and evidence-based knowledge in decision-making regarding pharmacotherapy
- Know the roles and responsibilities of different professional groups and medication users in the provision of pharmacotherapy
- Be familiar with the key sources of information for reliable medication and pharmacotherapy and know how to use them
- Understand the objectives and functions of pharmacotherapy as part of comprehensive patient treatment
- Know the responsibilities and duties of nurses as medication administrators throughout the treatment process
- Identify pharmacotherapy safety challenges in the context of patient safety and know how to promote medication safety at work
- Understand the importance of personal guidance and commitment to pharmacotherapy

Fluid Therapy 2 cr NEHO
Objectives
- Students will learn the responsibilities and roles of nurses as medication administrators at the different phases of intravenous fluid therapy, medication and nutritional care.
- Students will become familiar with the fundamentals of intravenous medication, fluid therapy and nutritional care and the challenges to the safety of pharmacotherapy.
- Students will identify the need for fluid therapy and parenteral nutrition and can plan, implement and evaluate their safe administration.
- Students will know the basics of blood transfusion and understand the role of nurses in its implementation.
- Students will understand the indications, operating principle and maintenance of the central venous catheter.

- Fundamentals of intravenous medication, fluid therapy, nutritional care and blood transfusion
- Administration of intravenous medication, fluid therapy, nutritional care and blood transfusion at the different phases of the pharmacotherapy process, as well as medication safety
- Plans for and documentation of intravenous medication and fluid therapy
- Safe implementation of blood transfusion
- Indications, operating principle and maintenance of the central venous catheter
