Objective

ADVANCED SPECIAL SKILLS IN MIDWIFERY 45 cr KäSY
- Students will learn to work independently and as members of a multiprofessional team
- Students will learn to improve and deepen their skills in the planning, provision, documenting and evaluation of midwifery in various settings.
- Students will comply with the ethical guidelines of midwifery and the applicable legislation.
- Students will master aseptic techniques.
- Students will master the central contents and methods of midwifery-related pharmacotherapy and administer safe pharmacotherapy.
- Students will deepen their guidance skills in sexual and reproductive health questions regarding the woman and her family.
- Students will master the management of a normal pregnancy.
- Students will know how to recognise at-risk pregnancies and send at-risk women to further care when necessary.
- Students will master the monitoring and treatment of pregnant women and foetuses in at-risk pregnancies.
- Students will learn to independently handle all the stages of a low-risk delivery.
- Students can work as a member of a multiprofessional team in a high-risk delivery.
- Students will learn to perform immediate observation and care of newborns and initiate resuscitation if required.
- Students will master the monitoring, guidance and care of women after childbirth.
- Students will master the care of healthy newborn babies.
- Students will know how to support women and families in breastfeeding and the development of early interaction.
- Students will learn to provide critical care to newborns as members of multiprofessional teams.
- Students will learn to provide the treatment process of a gynaecological patient.
- Students will master the guidance of gynaecological patients and their family members.
- Students will learn to support women and their family members in lifecycle-related crises.
- Students will learn to use different information systems to reliably document the care administered to women and families.

Completion alternatives

15/45 credits (= 405 hours) can be accredited if student has been working as a midwife during studies (application for accreditation has to be done in in Peppi-system and working certificate (in pdf-form) has to be included to the application)

STUDENT´S TASKS AND DUTIES:
- setting goals for practical training and uploading those to Sopro Online-application at the end of the first week of practical training
- mid-term evaluation discussion with supervisor and written report of that discussion to Sopro Online-application
- final evaluation discussion with supervisor and written report of that discussion to Sopro Online-application
- reporting working hours to Sopro Online-application
STUDENT´S WORKLOAD:
- 45 credits = 1215 hours, of which 6 hours info and feedback lessons during spring semester 2021 and 6 hours during autumn semester 2021
