Objective

Emergency Care for Acute Injuries 5 cr AVPEObjectivesStudents will learn to describe the most common situations and factors exposing children, working-age people and the elderly to accidents and injuries, as well as ways to prevent them.Students will learn to ensure their own safety, as well as the patient’s and the environment’s safety, in cases of accidents and injuries. They will also learn the basics of rescue operations.Students will understand how different cooperation authorities operate in cases of accidents and injuries and understand the significance of cooperation.Students will deepen and expand their competence in the drugs used in out-of-hospital emergency care, as well as their contraindications, effects and possible side effects and interactions with other medication.Students will learn to safely administer emergency care supporting a patient’s vital functions and to decide on the location of further treatment, depending on the need and urgency of care, in accordance with the principles of CRM.Students will become familiar with and be able to safely use devices for supporting, moving and transporting patients.Students will learn to provide guidance to patients, taking into account their age and level of development, as well as to give their family members advice on accident prevention and care-related matters.Students will know how to document the emergency care needs of patients suffering from acute illness or injury, plan and administer care and evaluate its effectiveness at the different stages of the process.Students will deepen their competence in major accidents and accidents involving multiple patients.Students will understand the basics of emergency vehicle operations.
