Objective

The student is able to
• identify dysfunctions of the nervous system and the effect of them on client´s functional ability at different ages,
• explain the connections between dysfunctions of the nervous system and constrains of the performance and participation,
• explain the promoting and limiting factors of the client’s living environment and individual resources related on client’s ability to function,
• notice neuropsychological changes and their effects on client’s performance and ability to function,
• select and apply appropriate examination methods of physiotherapy to detect client’s resources and deficiencies of nervous system and their effects on the client’s performance and participation,
• draw up physiotherapeutic diagnosis of neurological client and based on it, client-oriented goals (GAS, SMART),
• explain the main physiotherapy methods to support neurological client’s ability to function,
• choose and justify individual, appropriative methods of physiotherapy,
• apply critically evidence based practice to designing and implementing physiotherapy.

Content

Control of movement and performance at level of nervous system, identifying the effects of the main neurological movement disorders ( disorders in tonus, ataxia, rigidity), identifying the common perceptual cognitive disorders (neglect, apraxia) affecting on physiotherapy planning and implementation, identifying relationship between constrains of nervous system and limitations of performance and participation, physiotherapy for supporting ability to function at different ages.

Qualifications

The student is able to describe structures and function of musculoskeletal and nervous systems. (S)he is able to assess according to the principles of physiotherapy assessment (interview, observation, measurement and palpation) and support humans motor learning by verbal, manual and visual modelling. The student is able to describe the main neurological deficiencies.
