Objective

ACUTE, EMERGENCY AND INTENSIVE CARE NURSING 5 ECTS AKTE

Objectives
• Students will learn to describe the emergency care system and services in the context of specialized health care, the levels of emergency care and the role of and interdependency between different stages of emergency care
• Students will gain proficiency in the main treatment methods of emergency and acute nursing, treatment-related technology and the creation of a safe care environment
• Students will learn to interview and examine patients in emergency and acute care situations, identify the need for acute care, administer, document and report the required treatment and evaluate the actual treatment process
• Students will learn to use the VIRVE phone as a communication device for emergency and acute care and know how to describe inter-authority cooperation from the perspective of emergency and acute care
• Students will learn to safely administer pharmacotherapy to emergency and acute care patients
• Students will know how to assess customers’ need for and urgency of treatment in acute care and reception work and will be able to make independent decisions, while identifying their limits and using consultation for support
• Students will learn to cooperate with customers and their social networks and other people involved
• Students will gain proficiency in CRM
• Students will be able to carry out the clinical examinations and treatment measures belonging to the job description of nurses and draw the necessary conclusions
• Students will learn to provide customers with personalized guidance and support for self-care and health promotion
• Students will be capable of handling acute care and reception work in multicultural customer contacts
• Students will know how to draw conclusions of the condition of an acutely ill patient and propose appropriate nursing support methods
• Students will learn to describe the emergency care system and services in the context of specialized health care, the levels of emergency care and the role of and interdependency between different stages of emergency care
• Students will gain proficiency in the main treatment methods of emergency and acute care, treatment-related technology and the creation of a safe care environment.
• Students will learn to safely administer pharmacotherapy to emergency and acute care patients
• Students will be aware of the environment of intensive care wards and know how to ensure safe operations
• Students will know how to actively participate in multiprofessional working groups according to ethical principles
• Students will become familiar with the special characteristics of intensive care nursing and the treatment methods applied
• Students will understand the principles of examining and treating intensive care patients and know how to evaluate and handle any problems related to the nursing of critically ill patients in a systematic manner
• Students will know how to use patient examination, monitoring and care instruments safely for the purpose of intensive care, as well as to interpret the resulting information and act accordingly
• Students will be able to pay attention to the needs of family members related to the treatment of critically ill patients
• Students will understand the special features of pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy of intensive care patients

Content

Contents:

Intensive Care Nursing 3 ECTS TEHO
• Definition of intensive care nursing and the role and competence of an intensive care nurse
• Observation and treatment of the circulatory systems of intensive care patients (invasive blood pressure monitoring)
• Observation and treatment of the respiratory systems of critically ill patients (ventilation nursing, endotracheal suctioning)
• Observation of the neurological condition and treatment of critically ill patients (intracranial pressure monitoring and treatment)
• Observation and treatment of critically ill gastroenterological patients (intra-abdominal pressure monitoring)
• Intensive nursing of severe infectious diseases
• Pharmacotherapy, fluid therapy and nutrition therapy of intensive care patients
• Basic treatment and rehabilitation of intensive care patients
• Paying attention to the special needs of and support for family members in the treatment of critically ill patients
• Ethics of intensive care nursing
