Objective

Objectives
• Students will be familiar with nutrients and understand the need and significance of nutrients
• Students will be able to assess the nutritional needs of people
• Students will know how to apply the Finnish nutrition recommendations in the prevention and treatment of national diseases
• Students will be able to cooperate with a multidisciplinary expert network to integrate nutritional care and guidance into the nursing of internal medicine and surgical patients

Contents
• Nutritional needs and the roles of nutrients in the human organism
• Assessment of the nutritional status of customers and the importance of the assessment
• The importance of diets that comply with the dietary guidelines in promoting health and preventing endemic diseases
• Nutritional care and counselling for internal medicine and surgical patients and special diets most commonly associated with these ailments
