Foundation Engineering of InfrastructuresLaajuus (3 cr)
Code: 5041031
Credits
3 op
Objective
After completing the course student is able to interpret the typical calculation parameters from soil investigations surveys and calculate the stability and settlement of soft soil. The student understands the factors that affect the calculation of the load capacity of the road and knows how to replace the traditional structural layers with the parameters of recycled materials. In addition, he knows how to compare different ground reinforcement methods and understands and knows how to design simple soil improvements with the GeoCalc program. During the course, the dimensioning of an earth-loaded retaining wall is practiced both by calculating by hand and using the GeoCalc calculation program.
Content
The course includes the following areas:
-interpretation of soil investigations for calculation parameters
-calculation of the load capacity of the road with different structural layer materials including by-products
-road embankment settlement and stability calculations, time settlement, manual calculation and GeoCalc modeling
- the most typical soil improvement methods for infrastructures; light weight structures, loading embankments, stabilization.
- dimensioning of the supported excavation, manual calculation and GeoCalc modeling
