Innovation pedagogy is at the core of all degree programs at Turku University of Applied Sciences (Master’s level). Students work alongside their jobs, engaging in problem-based learning and applying theory to practice. This course includes on-campus learning, group work, and independent study.

In-person teaching focuses on the central theories of the course, as well as discussion and experience-sharing on the topics covered. Small group work emphasizes self-management, peer learning, and dialogical interaction. Individual assignments involve engaging with course literature, practicing information retrieval and refinement, and presenting ideas in a structured manner.

Student workload

The on-campus learning: lectures and hands-on activities (16 hours) and independent study: learning assignments and small group work (119 hours). Total: 135 hours (5 ECTS credits).

Content scheduling

The on-campus learning days for the 2025 course will take place on campus on the following dates:

• January 31st, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
• March 27th, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Course content:

• Concepts and practices of competence management.
• Identifying and anticipating competence needs.
• Developing and maintaining intellectual capital.
• Future competence needs in the social and healthcare sectors.

Attendance is required for the on-campus learning days. If a student is absent, he/she will need to complete a substitute assignment, which the teacher will announce after each on-campus learning day.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment is based on the learning assignments completed during the course, active participation in the on-campus learning days, the group assignment (grading: FAIL/T1-K5), and the individual assignment (grading: FAIL/T1-K5). The final grade for the course will primarily be determined by the grade of the individual assignment, with the grade of the group assignment having an impact.

Attendance is required for the on-campus learning days. If a student is absent from a session, they must complete a substitute assignment, which the teacher will announce after each on-campus learning day.

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

The submitted assignments do not address the majority of the aspects requested in the instructions.

Has not submitted all assignments according to the given schedule, nor attended the on-campus learning days or completed substitute assignments as agreed.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Has submitted all assignments and participated in the on-campus learning days. Demonstrates a general understanding of the course content in the learning assignments and has successfully completed all tasks (any absences have been compensated with approved substitute assignments).

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Has submitted all assignments on time and participated actively in the on-campus learning days. Demonstrates a good understanding of the course content in the learning assignments and shows the ability to apply what has been learned. Has successfully completed all tasks (any absences have been compensated with approved substitute assignments).
