Objectives
Student
• Knows how to plan, implement and assess the treatment of the symptoms and pain of a patient in palliative care and guide the patient and their family and friends while taking individual needs into account 
• Understands the concept of overall suffering and is able to apply this knowledge in their work 
• Can select and use appropriate symptom surveys and indicators in treatment 
• Knows the principles of safe and effective medical and non-medical treatment of patients in palliative care 
• Knows how to operate in a multiprofessional team to facilitate the treatment of the patient’s symptoms 
• Understands the process of death and applies their competence in patient care after their death while taking the patient's family and friends into consideration

• Origins and treatment of the most common symptoms (pain, shortness of breath, gastrointestinal tract symptoms, ascites, psychological symptoms, fatigue, cachexia, skin symptoms) 
• Treatment of pain in different patient groups, pharmacotherapy especially with opioids, non-medicated pain management 
• Medicated and non-medicated treatment of other symptoms 
• Symptom surveys and pain indicators 
• Multidisciplinary teamwork 
• Principles of palliative sedation 
• Death and postmortem care
