Students will
• Know how to determine and document surgical and internal medicine patients’ needs for care, plan and administer care and evaluate the effectiveness of care
• Learn to identify the changes that internal medicine or surgically treated illnesses and injuries cause to patients and their family members
• Learn to apply the internal medicine and surgical treatment methods appropriate for each individual patient
• Gain proficiency in pharmacotherapy related to the care of internal medicine and surgical patients
• Know how to support and give advice to patients and their family members about managing health problems and performing lifestyle changes and rehabilitation required for common surgical and internal medicine disorders
• Be able to determine the appropriate customer-oriented teaching and counselling methods, such as individual and group counselling in order to support the patient’s self-care and commitment to treatment
• Know the roles and responsibilities of different professional groups and understand the significance of cooperation in maintaining and promoting the functional capacity of surgical and internal medicine patients in the context of a multiprofessional team
• Know how to perform ethically in different care situations and work communities
• Learn to act in a way that promotes occupational and patient safety
