Objective

The objective of this course is to understand the structure and operation of the internal combustion engine and the emissions it causes and their effects.

Content

ENGINE TECHNOLOGY- The internal combustion engine uses and the breakdown criteria- Spark ignition and the diesel engine- 2- and 4-stroke engine- The main dimensions of the cylinder and the imposition of a cylinder ratio, the average piston speed- Mean effective pressure- Torque, power and efficiency- Specific fuel consumption- Combustion without the need for air coefficient- Gas exchange
EMISSION CONTROL- Fuels - combustion – combustion products- Breakdown of emissions- The effects and disadvantages of various types of emissions- The importance of transport emissions of all emissions in proportion- Petrol engine emissions and their reduction- Diesel engine emissions and their reduction- Measurement procedures of and legislation on emissions from light-duty vehicles- Methods of measurement and regulation of emissions of heavy duty vehicles
