Objective

Preclinical Training in Perioperative Nursing 1 cr PEHOP

Students will
- Learn to perform surgical nursing in the surgical ward taking safety into account
- Learn to carry out the necessary preparations for the patient’s intra-operative care
- Understand the key factors contributing to the success of team work in the surgical and anaesthetic wards
- Practice the tasks of anaesthetic nurses, circulating nurses and surgeon’s assistants
- Learn to use the key care equipment used in anaesthetic and surgical care
- Practice aseptic techniques in different nursing roles in the surgical ward
- Learn to observe and care for patients in the intraoperative and immediate postoperative context
- Practice documenting and reporting perioperative nursing

- Preoperative and intraoperative preparations in the surgical and anaesthetic wards
- Observation and care of anaesthetised patients
- Use of the surgical team checklist
- Most common operating positions
- Care of patient during the procedure: different nursing roles, duties and team work
- Main care instruments and equipment
- Aseptic techniques in the surgical ward, surgical assistance
- Immediate postoperative observation and care of patients
