Objective

The student can perform basic calculations of ship motions and seakeeping predictions and relate them to floatability and stability in still water

Content

As the course deals with major safety issues of ship design, it starts with repetition of basics of floatability and stability, prior knowledge level assessment, and self-studies. The course topics are:
- Distance learning materials of ship stability for non- shipbuilders

- Ship as spring-mass-damping system

- Ship motions in regular and irregular waves

- Effects of seakeeping on humans on board

- Effects of seakeeping in offshore design
