Objective

MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE NURSING 7 ECTS MIHA

Objectives
Students will
• Know how to determine the mental health/substance abuse care needs of patients, in order to plan and administer care, and to evaluate its effectiveness
• Learn to interact with and help customers/patients of different ages, as well as their family members
• Become familiar with the methods used in mental health and substance abuse nursing, the nurse-patient relationship and the work pair approach, as well as learn to use supervision of work as a way to support professional development.
• Learn to analyse how their own values and attitudes influence their interaction with customers/patients of different ages and their professional interaction
• Understand the ethics of nursing and base their actions on current knowledge
• Increase their pharmacotherapy competence in mental health and substance abuse nursing (medication passport)
• Learn to document information about the treatment of mental health and substance abuse patients

Contents
• How to plan, perform and assess evidence-based mental health and substance abuse care and counselling and how to document the process
• Practising common methods of mental health and substance abuse care according to the learning environment and the needs of the patients/customers
• Practising the clinical examination of a patient and care-related, empowering interaction with patients/customers
• Different methods used in mental health and substance abuse nursing, the nurse-patient relationship and supervision of work
• The mental health and substance abuse care service system
• More profound skills in pharmacotherapy and mental health

Student workload

Harjoittelujakson tunnit 189h, joista saa vähentää CV päivittäminen 2h, perehdytystunnille osallistuminen 2h ja palautetunnille osallistuminen 2h ja loput tunnit (183h) harjoittelua sovitussa harjoittelupaikassa. Sisältää kliinisen oppimistehtävän.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Hyväksytty suoritus edellyttää:
Ennen jakson alkua: CV:n laatiminen ja pitäminen aktiivisena harjoittelujakson loppuun asti, perehdytystunnille osallistuminen
Jakson aikana: Läsnäolo osastolla, tuntimäärän täyttyminen
Tavoitteiden laatiminen (palautus tutorille) ja tavoitekeskustelu ohjaajan kanssa, väliarviointi (palautus tutorille), loppuarviointi ja itsearvioinnin tekeminen (palautus tutorille) = harjoittelusovelluksen kautta
Arviointilomakkeen ja työvuorotaulukon täyttäminen harjoittelusovelluksen kautta
Jakson jälkeen: palautetunnille osallistuminen, arviointilomake ja työvuorotaulukko palautetaan tutorille/harjoittelusovellukseen
