Objective
After completing the course, the student can:
• use common measuring instruments
• build a suitable measuring arrangement for a problem and perform the measurements
• estimate uncertainty of measurements and determine uncertainty for the results for a simple case
• make and analyze graphical representations
• keep a laboratory notebook and report results orally and in writing
• work safely at a laboratory
• work safely with radioactive materials
• handle the waste developed in laboratory
Content
• Measurement accuracy and propagation of errors
• Mechanical measurements
• Electric circuits and electrical measurement
• Optics and spectroscopy
• Radiation safety
Materials
Given material and suitable physics books
Teaching methods
Harjoitustyöt laboratoriossa ja itsenäiset tehtävät
Pedagogic approaches and sustainable development
aktiiviset opetusmenetelmät: learning by doing ja flipped learning, yksilö- ja ryhmätehtäviä
Student workload
3 cr = 80 h student work
- 14 h laboratory work
- 66 h independent work, reports an pre-assignments
Evaluation methods and criteria
The course is assessed on a scale from 0 - 5 based on the scorse from
- pre-assignments
- laboratory notes and reports
Laboratory notes must be returned for all works.
Activity and work habits in the laboratory may affect the grade +/-1.
Failed (0)
Less than 50 % of the scores, absence or missing laboratory notes.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
50 - 70 % of maximum score
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
70 - 90 % of maximum score
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
More than 50 - 60 % of maximum score
