Objective

Students are familiar with the principles of chemical analysis methods and their use in clinical chemistry. Students know the measures of quality management in clinical chemistry and know the principles of using automated analyzers, and the phases of validating the analysis results. Students know the physiological background of examinations in clinical chemistry, their clinical significance and indications for examinations and know how to use their knowledge in clinical biochemistry analyses.

Content

- Basic concepts in clinical chemistry
- Common analytes: Carbohydrates, proteins, lipoproteins, electrolytes and blood gases. Kidney function, liver and cardiovascular disease.
- Principles of laboratory analyses and analytical techniques in clinical chemistry
- Automated analyzers, usage and maintenance
- Handling of specimens for analysis, chemicals and reagents, safety in clinical chemistry laboratory
