Objective
Naval architecture and marine engineering studies are applied in a large ship concept design project. A ship concept is developed by utilizing topics and skills learned in earlier modules
Content
Topics and skills learned in earlier naval architecture and marine engineering modules studies are applied in a large ship concept design project. A ship concept is developed in small student groups.
Topics included are for example.:
- outline sprcification, general arrngement plan
- main frame calculation and drawing
- stability and weight calculation
- propulsion machinery selection
- safety aspects in concept design
Teaching methods
The students go through the first round of the ship design spiral. Students are able to apply the theories learned from previous modules to their own ship project.
Content scheduling
1.
- Choosing a ship type and getting to know the specifics of it
- Reference ship collecting
