Objective

This course is designed for exchange students. The course is a fun way to get to know Finnish language and Finnish everyday life. After the course students understand basic structures in the Finnish language and are able to cope in everyday situations.
 
Student will be familiar with Finnish as a language (grammar, structure, basic features). S/he is able to introduce himself, able to ask simple questions and answer to them.

Content

Introduction to Finnish, pronunciation, everyday phrases in Finnish, basic grammar; vocabulary, such as nationalities, food, colours, numbers, travelling.

Materials

Material provided in thecourse platform Itslearning and in class.
FIRST MATERIAL SHOULD BE PRINTED OR DOWNLOADED BY STUDENTS, BEFORE THE SECOND LESSON

Teaching methods

Lessons onsite and practice in groups.
Meetings in the classroom, working with assignments online in the learning space Itslearning. Also tasks to do in real life situations.
Active participation (student must attend at least 80% of the lessons) in the classroom activities, such as speaking excercises in pairs / small groups.

Exam schedules

Oral exam in the last week of the course + re-exam if needed

International connections

Based on Innopeda - method, learning real life communication by doing.

Student workload

Classroom activities + Oral exam 20 h (10 x 90 min)

Assignments in Itslearning: written/oral assignments, group works and research in internet, using the language in real life, independent studies 60 h.

All together appr. 80 h of studies

Content scheduling

10 meetings on Wednesdays at 16.15 - 17.45 at Kupittaa campus starting 17.1.2024. NOTE - the lessons has been moved to Wednesdays! Instead of Tuesday as announced before: See the schedule.

Student will be familiar with Finnish as a language (basic features). He is able to introduce himself, ask simple questions and answer to them. The focus is in spoken language.
