- is able to communicate in key basic care situations and routine procedures orally
- is able to provide information, request, direct and explain their activities in basic care situations
- is able to express politely when not understanding, i.e. asking for repetition or clarification
- is able to communicate with the patient, family member, professional staff and the work community in basic situations
- understands some colloquial language
- understand the main points of the texts of health care documents, such as patient records and plain language treatment instructions
- is able to record some patient records and treatment events
- is encouraged to communicate in Finnish in routine situations of nursing and to convey information about them both orally and in writing

Contents
Strengthening language from the point of view of health care and the nurse
- Daily verbal and written interaction situations in nursing, e.g.
o Asking about the patient's well-being, guiding the patient in routine care situations, describing one's own activities
- Key grammatical structures needed in routine care situations, e.g.
o The structures of asking, directing and explaining, the basic types of sentences
- Expansion of vocabulary related to one's own professional field, e.g.
o everyday expressions of time and quantity, body parts, description of pain, basic diseases, medication, treatment instructions
- Understanding and partial production of the main points of professional texts, e.g.
o pre-information forms, medication lists, laboratory tests, patient instructions and recorded treatment events
- Strengthening language learning strategies
