Content scheduling

This course aims to equip students with the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and critical thinking necessary to produce engaging and professional photographic art exhibitions. By the end of the course, students will have curated and participated in a public group exhibition, gaining invaluable insight into the field of photographic presentation practices.

Students will gain hands-on experience in exhibition development, focusing on the specific challenges and opportunities within photographic art. The curriculum covers key aspects of exhibition-making, including:
• Curatorial practices and the role of storytelling through photographs.
• Practical skills in display techniques, lighting, and spatial design tailored to photography.
• Theoretical discussions on the relationship between photography and the gallery space.
• The role of audience engagement, accessibility, and public programming in exhibitions.
• Digital and physical exhibition formats, including emerging trends such as virtual galleries.
• Marketing, promotion, and documentation of exhibitions.

Opiskelija
- tuntee ja osaa toteuttaa erilaisia valokuvan esittämisen muotoja.
- osaa toimia itsenäisesti ja tavoitteellisesti oman taiteellisen työn suhteen.
- tunnistaa ilmiöitä taiteen kentällä ja osaa hahmottaa omaa toimijuutta suhteessa siihen.
- osaa suunnitella ja toteuttaa näyttelyn.

Content

Opintojaksolla opiskelija keskittyy omaan taiteellisen työskentelyyn ja näyttelyn toteuttamiseen yhdessä muiden ryhmän jäsenten kanssa. Opintojakson aikana tutustutaan taiteen kentän ilmiöihin ja otetaan selvää erilaisista toimintamahdollisuuksista sillä.

Students will participate in a group project to curate and build a photographic art exhibition, working collaboratively to solve creative and logistical challenges.

Production and presentation of finished photographic work(s). Critical analysis of existing photographic exhibitions and artist statements will deepen their understanding of professional practices.

Student
- has participated in teaching and completed all assignments

- is able to plan his/her/their own work and identify the stages of his/her/their working process

- demonstrates understanding of the knowledge base of a photographic artist

In addition, the student
- demonstrates mastery of the knowledge base of a photographic artist and applies it in his/her/their own work
- is able to analyse and develop the stages of his/her/their working process
- is able to critically analyse different solution models
- is able to work professionally and innovatively in visual arts tasks
