Content scheduling

The impact of the company's strategy on the factory's production strategy
Different factory shapes and production environments
Smart factory, sustainable development and recycling
Calculation of production costs taking into account the challenges of the order-delivery process and cost efficiency week
Manufacturing costs and their allocation to cost centers and/or products
Budgeting in factories
In small groups, the Business Simulation game is played, Here we focus on learning the order-delivery process through games
Exam week at the end of course

In addition to this, the student makes a report by familiarizing himself with the literature in the field in order to be able to solve the personal exercise given in Itslearning

Objective

After completing the course, the student:
-knows basics of different factories at machinery and shipbuilding
-knows and understand company strategies, especially production strategy
-can count production costs for pricing products
-understands how to optimize production and logistic costs
-knows budgeting process in a company
- can manage and lead production resources in systematic way

The lecture material is in Itslearning and the literature used in the course will be announced at the beginning of the course.

First written exam of the course on December 10th , 2025

You can retake the exam 2 times in a separately informed common exam dates of Mechanical Engineering department in year 2026
( Wed 14.1. , 11.2., 13.5 and 3.6.2026)

Evaluation methods and criteria

The grade is formed as follows:
- personal exercises 50%
- small group Business Simulation game exercise and written report 30%
- written exam 20%

Failed (0)

The student does not pass written exercises or group work in the given schedule before April 30, 2025, or does not pass the written exam. You can always agree on the schedule of written exercises when there is a real reason for extra time.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Grade T1-2:
- The student knows how to search for information from different information sources, use key professional concepts and act according to assignments and instructions in study situations.
- The student knows how to name and understand the various branches of the metal industry, the various forms of production and the infrastructure requirements of industrial operations satisfactorily
- The student knows how to act as a member of a group and give and receive feedback.
- The assignments are done. There are clear shortcomings in the assignments, but they are not significant from the point of view of the whole. The written exam has been passed with a grade of at least 1.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Grade H3-4:
- The student knows how to search for and combine everyday knowledge and researched knowledge and use key professional concepts related to production operations and factories in a systematic way.
- The student knows how to name and understand the different branches of the metal industry, the different forms of production and the infrastructure requirements of industrial operations well
- The student knows how to work actively in a group and cooperate with goals. The student knows how to give constructive feedback and takes it into account in his work.
- All course assignments and peer evaluations have been completed according to the agreed schedule.
- All the tasks have been completed in accordance with the requirements, in a professional manner, in accordance with the assignment and the given instructions, but the outputs have remained at a general level. The exercises contain key areas and are a coherent whole.
The written exam has been passed with a grade of at least 2.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Grade K5:
- The student knows how to use professional concepts expertly and applies what he has learned creatively and produces his own conclusions.
- The tasks of the course have been completed according to the schedule and in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
- The student is able to name and understand the various branches of the metal industry, the various forms of production and the infrastructure requirements of industrial operations commendably
- The student knows how to organize the group's activities and openly brings new ideas to the group's use.
- The student manages constructive feedback and is able to modify his own activities accordingly. He inspires others to act in accordance with these abilities and goals.
- The exercise includes key areas and innovative processing. The presentation is innovative and inspiring.
The written exam has been passed with a grade of at least 4.

Proximity to working life is guaranteed with company visits and expert lectures on industry
Sustainable development is taken into account in the factory infrastructure and the effects of certificates such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
