Content scheduling

Student knows Basic principles of traditional drawn animation, importance of rhythm and timing.
He/she knows how to apply rules of animation to objects, animals and humans.
He/she knows how to use digital TV Paint software.

Objective

After completing the course, the student will be able to
- identify the basic principles of animation
- recognise the importance of rhythm and timing in the formation of movement
- apply the basic principles of animation to the movement of characters and inanimate objects
- use animation software
- develop their own expression through their studies

Content

The course introduces students to the expressive techniques and terminology of animation and the importance of rhythm and timing in the formation of movement. The work will explore the structures and relationships of movement and the behaviour of the animated mass. Animation exercises will be done both on paper and digitally. Croquis drawing is used to develop perceptual and concentration skills.

Materials

Richard Williams: The animator's survival kit: [a manual of methods, principles and formulas for classical, computer, games, stop motion and internet animators]

Teaching methods

During study period student practise animation skills by doing exercises with pen and paper. He/she also learns to use digital TV Paint software.

Pedagogic approaches and sustainable development

Contact teaching and independent work. Student does independent work with given exercises. During contact period teacher is giving feedback and shows how to make animation work better.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Feedback is given during the course. Movement, timing and rhythm. All exercises has to be done.

Failed (0)

Opiskelija ei suorita annettuja harjoituksia

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
