Objective
The student can do basic design tasks on diesel-electric power plants and can calculate energy balances
Content
The course starts with repetition of basics of diesel-electric power plants, prior knowledge level assessment, and self-studies. The course topics are:
- Distance learning materials on basics of diesel-electric power plants
- Design exercises in diesel-electric power plants
- Energy balance and optimization of diesel-electric power plants in ships
- Principles of ship propellers compared with pumps
- Safety and environmental aspects of ship machineries
- Export cases of diesel-electric power plants
