Content scheduling

CONTENTS
Six weeks of clinical internship in health care organization.
Clinical internship will be performed in Turku University Central Hospital, Puerperal Unit 4, in a pilot of student-led unit.

Objective

SPECIALIST COMPETENCE IN MIDWIFERY 1 8 CR KÄER 1

Objectives:

The student shall be able to

- plan, implement, document and evaluate, as a member of a multidisciplinary team, the nursing of a pregnant, parturient and puerperal mother, a healthy neonatal infant, a neonatal infant requiring intensive care, or a gynaecological patient

- guide, advise and treat patients and family members in midwifery sexual and reproductive health care issues, medicinal treatment, nutrition, exercise and hygiene

- act ethically in accordance with the ethics of midwifery and observe the governing regulations and legislation

- support the patient's empowerment

- act correctly in terms of aseptics

- use software for electronic documentation at the ward and record the essential data in the database

Content

The contents will be published in the implementation plan The study units will consist of training units fulfilling the requirements of the EU/2005 directives.

Teaching methods

During internship students participate in normal activities of health care unit and study how to plan, implement, evaluate and document midwifery/nursing activities and duties/responsibilities.
Student-led unit (whole group will have clinical internship at the same time and at the same unit).

EXTENT OF CLINICAL INTERNSHIP is 8 credits = 8 x 27 h = 216 h of students work of which
• Orientation and info about clinical practice at school 2h and in practical placement 2h
• Composing and updating CV and online reservation of practical placements in Jobiili-system 2h
• Feedback session after clinical internship at school 2h
TASKS AND DUTIES:
• Setting personal learning goals for clinical internship (in written form)
• Reflection diary and reflection discussions
• Self evaluation (in written form) and evaluation discussions
• Demonstration of competence as a breastfeeding counsellor
OBS! All hours of absence need to be covered. Possible hours of absence have to be negotiated and planned with supervising teacher and midwife/nurse in health care unit.

Evaluation methods and criteria

• Clinical internship will be evaluated with scale passed/failed (evaluation criteria in messi)
For approval student should participate to weekly evaluation sessions and final evaluation session
• Grade will be given when student has returned all documents (original evaluation form and timetable with supervisors approval) for supervisin teacher
• Demonstration session of competence as a breastfeeding counsellor will be evaluated with scale passed/failed
