Objective

After completing the course, you will be able to - tell about yourself, your studies and your work - write a variety of factual texts from different perspectives - give reasons for your own opinions - summarise the key points in texts and in oral presentations - use the right tone and style in your writing - use structures typical of written language.

Content

- Written language structures: rections and non-finite clauses, different ways of linking a text - Comprehension of factual texts - Understanding of speech - Writing factual texts (opinion piece, summary, essay, report and email) - Discussion on Moodle discussion forums

An online course that you can complete on your own schedule during the period of the course.

All materials are available on the course's online platform.

Teaching methods

After the course, you will be able to introduce yourself, your studies and your work, and write a variety of different texts from different perspectives. You will be able to explain your opinions and summarise the main points of texts and presentations. You will also know the correct style and tone of writing and the typical writing structures of the Finnish language. The course is an online course and you will work independently on the online platform. There are no lessons or teaching sessions. You will receive teacher feedback and a grade at the end of the course.

The course is 5 credits = 137h of independent student work.

Evaluation methods and criteria

The course includes various independent tasks and small exams, which are assessed at the end of the course. The assignments will be graded to give an overall grade for the course.
