Objective

After completing the course, the student will be able to name and locate in Finnish and Latin the following muscles of the lower limb and define their functions (muscle innervation is covered in a separate course): • Muscles of the hip region • Muscles of the thigh • Muscles of the lower leg • Muscles of the foot

Location and time

The course is implemented 100% as an online course on Moodle during the implementation period. Competence is demonstrated through an Exam test.

Materials

All Exam materials are available on the Moodle platform. The exam materials are primarily based on two sources: 1. Hokkanen, M. & Vierimaa, H. 2019. Tuki- ja liikuntaelimistön anatomia. Opiskelukirja. Sanoma Pro Oy. (This book is primarily used as a textual source.) 2. Platzer, W. 2014. Color Atlas of Human Anatomy, Vol 1: Locomotor System. Thieme Medical Publishers, Inc. (This book is primarily used as an image source.) Additionally, anatomical images can be searched using Google Images. It is also recommended to explore three-dimensional models or videos on platforms such as YouTube, as understanding two-dimensional images can otherwise be challenging.

Teaching methods

The course is conducted entirely as a self-paced online course. On the Moodle learning platform: Written study materials, short video lectures, independent self-assessment, and the opportunity for peer discussions. In Exam test facilities: Course examination.

Exam schedules

You can register for the Exam test after you have received the right to study. Exam tests are taken in designated Exam rooms, which are available in multiple higher education institutions. Each student has three attempts to pass the test during their study entitlement period. The passing threshold is 70%. If the test is not passed within three attempts, the student may re-enroll in the course.
