Objective
Student • Understands the meaning of POCT and its requirements in different healthcare environments • Is aware of sampling requirements of laboratory examinations • Understands the intended use of typical POCT devices, maintenance and errors • Understands the differences between self-management and self-testing
Content
• POCT in different healthcare environments from the nursing point of view • Laws, standards and recommendations in POCT • Quality assessment in POCT • Pre-analytics and sampling • POCT devices and basics of measurement methods • Maintenance and information systems in POCT
Location and time
The course dates are: 3.11. - 19.12.2025. The course uses the Moodle learning environment. A working network connection is required. The course's Moodle will open on 3.11.2025.

The teacher's ASSIGNMENTS AND MATERIALS are works under the Copyright Act (404/61), to which the teacher has copyright. ASSIGNMENT AND MATERIALS may not be used other than in one's own studies. Their public distribution is only permitted with the teacher's permission.

The course is conducted online. Lecture recordings and other materials, group discussions, assignments and exams are on the Moodle learning environment.

Evaluation methods and criteria
The course is assessed on a pass/fail scale. A pass grade requires timely, approved completion of all course assignments and online exams. The pass mark for exams is 50% correct answers.
