Objective
Patrice Toye & Miel van Hoogenbemt: How to work with actors? Reading the script together, briefing them, construct their characters with them and make an interesting mise en place and mise en scène is the goal of this exercise.
Content
The workshop starts on monday May 6th. The first day we interview each other and do a little casting of the actors, so that you can choose very quickly with which actors you want to work. The casting exercise is to see how the actor plays without dialogues (i.e. a man is stuck in an elevator, tries to find a way to get out and starts to panique, please think each of you about other proposals). The purpose is that at the end of the day each director has chosen his both actors and his crew (DOP, sound). You will be divided in 2 groups of 4 directors and each director makes a film in one shot (plan séquence) and the other directors are his crew (maybe helped by other students). Not more than one shot, no editing, but an interesting 'mise en place' is more than welcome.
The other days (May 7th till May 10th) we shoot a little film in the afternoon (14-18) and you prepare your shoot with your actors and your crew in the morning, groupe A is coached by Patrice, groupe B by me (Miel). After each day we do a debrief. May 13th we look all together to the films and we discuss about each film.
