Objective

SPECIAL QUESTIONS IN MENTAL HEALTH AND PSYCHIATRIC NURSING 5 ECTS MIPSY
Objectives
Students will
• Deepen their competence in the treatment of mental health and substance abuse patients
• Enhance their expertise in demanding mental health and substance abuse work
• Master the main treatment methods and the creation of a safe care environment in mental health, substance abuse and crisis management work
• Learn to use career counselling as a method for professional growth and to support their competence in mental health and substance abuse nursing
• Be familiar with various national and international mental health promotion projects and strategies
• Know how to use health care technology in mental health and substance abuse nursing

Content

Contents:
• Significance of occupational well-being in supporting mental health
• Special issues in substance abuse work
• Minorities and particularly vulnerable groups of people
• Current international and national methods for promoting mental health
• Health care technology’s role in supporting the mental health of the population

Materials

The course does not include an actual textbook. Up-to-date online materials and teacher materials in ITS are available.

Teaching methods

Me-We-Us method.
With the help of preliminary assignments, the student becomes familiar with the topic being discussed. In the classes, the topic is first reflected on in small groups and then with the whole group.

The course is 5 ECTS credits, which means 135 student working hours

For exchange students, the implementation is 2 ECTS credits, i.e. 54 hours of student work.

Content scheduling

You can participate in the course once you have successfully completed the Basic Studies and Basic Practical Training (MIHA) in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Work.
The course focuses on the themes of mental health and substance abuse work.
The course includes the following themes:
- The importance of well-being at work in supporting mental health
- Suicidal customer
- Minority and particularly vulnerable persons
- International and national topical methods and projects in mental health, RDI integration
- Advanced competence in mental health and substance abuse work for people of different ages
The course is implemented based on weekly changing themes. The course also includes independent study.
The course is implemented in zoom.
