The student will identify biotechnological methods and equipment by name and be able to describe the operating principles of the most common devices. The student will recognize analysis equipment used in process monitoring and describe the characteristics of laboratory equipment and process monitoring devices. They will be able to calculate and report results. The student will work safely in the laboratory, identify biological, chemical, and physical hazards in the laboratory, and know how to protect themselves from them. The student will be able to classify laboratory waste.
Content
The content includes biotechnical processes and common biotechnical measurement methods (e.g., fluorescence, spectrometry, chromatography, gel electrophoresis, and DNA & protein analysis).
