Objective

The aim of the studies is to provide the basic knowledge and skills needed in work communities and to enable the continuous development of one's own skills. The aim is that graduates in financial management will have a broad range of professional skills and competences, including teamwork and networking skills, creativity and initiative. They also have good communication and interpersonal skills, good language skills and the ability to follow developments in the field.

The focus is on both the management of financial obligations and the preparation of accounts to support business decision-making. Practical issues of accounting, taxation and payroll management are dealt with in real customer situations in the TradeTase accounting cooperative. Modern information systems and digital financial management tools are used.

Development

In business education, learning is learner-centred and work-based. The role of the teacher is to be an enabler and coach, helping independent students to achieve their professional goals. Active learning methods are used, whereby students take responsibility for their learning and actively participate in their work.

Learning can take place in a variety of learning environments; traditional courses, student cooperatives, enterprise projects, UAS projects or in your own company. Student entrepreneurs can get support and coaching from the BusinessClub community (https://businessclub.turkuamk.fi/)

Students have the flexibility to develop a HOPS (Personalised Learning Plan) by building their own learning pathway based on the studies on offer. In addition students can also focus their skills development through elective studies, project studies, thesis and internships. A tutor or coach will help you to plan your studies. Students can also study at other higher education institutions in Finland or abroad and these studies can be included in the degree of Turku UAS.

It is also possible to study during the summer months. Students have good opportunities to go on an international student exchange. Internships abroad are also supported.

Further information

The assessment focuses on competence and its development. A wide range of assessment methods and criteria are used and different perspectives are brought to the assessment. In addition to assessment by the teacher, peer assessment, self-assessment or assessment by the client, for example, may be used. Another aim of the assessment is that students learn to evaluate their own competence and develop their own work.

The assessment criteria for each course are described in general terms in the study guide and in more detail in the course implementation plan.

Assessment can be carried out in a variety of ways, for example through examinations, assignments and extended learning tasks, or projects. Projects can be used to assess the collective output of a group, the success of teamwork, time management or innovation, rather than individual assessment.

Course grades are expressed as a number from 0 to 5 or as a verbal assessment of pass/fail. In addition to this, the student or student team often receives verbal or written feedback, which helps the student to become aware of his/her own strengths and areas for improvement.
