Objective

The course introduces organizations acting in marine industry. During the course student gets familiar with information sources and understands importanced of critical evaluation of information. The course explains tasks and purpose of different types of vessels as well asrole of regulatory bodies and rules and regulations.
The student knows shipbuilding process from enquiry to delivery and warranty period including main phases of the production at the shipyard.

Content

Sea traffic and ship production -course covers business environment of marine industry. Organizations, terminology, different types of ships, sea freight and main sailing routes and harbours are introduced. Life cycle of a ship project at a shipyard is introduced from Finnish point of view. Cruise ships and ice going vessels are of special interest. Production issues are concentrating in prototypes and short series. Most important rules and regulations are covered as well as short introduction to tasks during dry docking.
