Objective

After a completed study unit the student
- has a grasp of the technical and financial significance of tool design and manufacturing and of product design for product development operations and for the entire business cycle of the product
- can design tools for conventional manufacturing methods
- can apply the Lean and JIT principles in production development projects
- knows the basics of production layout design (production line, functional layout, cell layout).

- production types, production planning process, the principles of Lean Production and JIT, the basics of production layout design, work analysis
- tool designer proficiency, design aids, 3D modelling
- the significance of the CAD/CAM  system for tool design and manufacturing
- workpiece securing devices, sheet metal working tools, injection moulds, and the tools required for production automation.
