Structural Fire DesignLaajuus (5 cr)

Code: TE00CS85

Credits

5 op

Objective

Upon completing the course, the student will master the fire-related properties of materials used in load-bearing structures and be able to perform fire design for load-bearing concrete, steel, and timber structures. The student will be capable of determining fire loads, identify the effects of structural fire resistance class on design, and utilizing available fire models.

Content

Fire design of steel structures:
-Temperature development in steel
-Cross-sectional factor for steel components
-Unprotected steel structures
-Fire protection methods
-Critical temperature
-Durability in fire situations

Fire design of timber structures:
-Unprotected timber structure, charring design
-Fire-protected timber structure
-Fire protection of connections
-Demonstration of compartmentation

Fire design of concrete structures
