Objective

After completing studies, the student:

- Is familiar with the ethical guidelines of health care in Finland.
- Understands the importance of ethical guidelines in Finnish nursing.
- Understands the importance of patient safety in health care in the work of a nurse.
- Is familiar with the different service systems and legislation of Finnish social welfare and health care.
- Is able to find the necessary information about social welfare and health care service systems in Finland.

Content

Ethics and ethical principles:

You will study the values, ethical principles and guidelines of the care sector. All of these will guide the nurse’s work. In addition, you are considering and solving ethical problems. After completing the section,

- You can describe the principles of the nurse's ethical function and act in accordance with ethical guidelines,
- You can describe the principles of collegiate action and act in accordance with them,
- You can assess how ethical guidelines affect your own activities.
- You can assess what ethical principles and values mean in nursing.

Customer and patient safety:

You will study what the concept of patient safety means and how patient safety is part of a nurse’s work. After completing the section:

- You can describe what customer and patient safety and the culture of the customer and patient safety mean .
- You can recognize the vocabulary of patient safety and distinguish between different concepts.
- You can understand why the customer and patient safety is a key issue in a nurse's work.
- You can identify three customers areas, and patient safety (health, the safety of equipment, the safety of medicine) and these hazards.
- You can describe the safety of the patient and patient and the factors that contribute to these.
- You know how mistakes are learned when promoting patient safety and a culture of patient safety.
- You can distinguish between the work and tasks of social and health care professionals, act in accordance with your professional role and at the same time promote patient safety.

The Social and health care services system:

You are familiar with the Finnish social welfare and health services system and the legislation governing its organization. After completing the section:

- You can describe the structure of the Finnish social and health services system.
- You are able to describe the functions of various social and health services providers as part of the customer and patient care chain.
- You recognize the focus of digital services as part of today's and future social and health services.
- You know how to face a customer or patient customer-oriented.
- You know digital service systems and understand their role in social and health care services.

Qualifications

Completed Diploma or Bachelor-level nurse’s degree outside the EU and EEA countries.
Approved selection the test.
The suitability of the applicant for training is ensured in the selection test.
Finnish language proficiency at least at level A2.1 (according to the European Framework of Reference).
