All material used in the course is instructed and distributed on the course’s Itslearning platform.

Teaching methods

The course is based on independent work online on the Its Learning platform. The different sections of the course delve into a specific topic and theme by completing various learning tasks related to it. The assignments test reading comprehension, information acquisition skills and process comprehension.

Exam schedules

There is no exam on the course. Assessment is based on learning tasks.

International connections

During the course, the student must play an active role and must take independent responsibility for his or her own learning and the implementation of learning tasks. The course is based on individual work, where the role of research group leader/responsible teacher is to support and guide the work when needed. The learning tasks are connected to the competence required for research group work and its practice.

Dimensioning of the work:
1 cr corresponds to 27h student work, ie 5 cr = 135h.

Content scheduling

The course focuses on clarifying the research and development activities of Turku University of Applied Sciences and opens up the key operating methods of the research group. After completing the course, the student is able to work as part of a research group, understands general work-related terminology and processes, and is able to work independently.

The course consists of four general content themes and two in-depth sections focusing on one research group:

Theme I: Introduction to research group work at Turku UAS (1 cr)
Theme II: Information Acquisition and Communication (1 cr)
Theme III: Data Protection and Research Ethics (0.5 cr)
Theme IV: Project Management and Process (0.5 cr)
Theme V: Advanced section of research group activities (2 cr)

Timing: The course is an online course, so it is possible for the student to complete the course independently at the most appropriate time.

Assessment methods and criteria

The approved completion of the course is based on the learning assignments and the percentage required to complete them. In order to complete the course, a total of 90% of the learning tasks in the course must be completed correctly.
