Training in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Women’s Care 1 cr SELIP
Objectives
Students will
- Practice the main examination and treatment methods for sexual and reproductive health
- Be able to name the key gynaecological instruments and their purpose
- Learn to support and help parturient women in urgent childbirth of a first-aid nature if no physician or midwife is available.
- Learn to provide basic counselling to breastfeeding mothers
- Learn to provide guidance in contraceptive use at different stages of life

Student workload
1 cr = 27 h of students work
Practical training in classroom and simulated situations will be performed in two small groups in three training sessions (3+3+4 hours = 10 hours lab/sim-rehearsals in classroom)
• 2 x 3 hours of training/practices in classroom:
LAB 1 (3h) gynecological nursing and surveillance of pregnancies (gynecological examination, taking pap smear sample and breast examination etc.)
LAB 2 (3h) emergency labour and breastfeeding
• 4h (2+2) simulation
Topics: Contraception and emergency labour outside the hospital
• 11 h independent studies (performing preassignments for contact hours, information retrieval and writing a task)
OBS! Both groups are at school at the same time. When other group has practical training sessions in classroom, other group has workshop

• Gynecological examination, gynecological instruments and breast examination
• Contraceptive methods
• Taking pap smear sample
• Assisiting in emergency labour/delivery
• Guidance for breastfeeding and devices for breastfeeding

• Participation to training sessions and simulations are mandatory, if any absentees, those have to be done by participating to some other groups sessions (It is not possible to have any kind of written assignment).
• Preassignments for training sessions are in Optima and those preassignments have to be done before attending the training session. If student hasnt done preassignment, he/she cannot participate to the training session.
