Objective
The student
• gets acquainted with the Nordic business environment and opportunities for future business. The student can communicate in Nordic contacts and understands the meaning of the successful communication.
• is aware of cultural, social and working life differencies in the Nordic countries
• is aware of the importance of Scandinavian as neighbouring area and it´s opportunities in working life and study.
• understands that knowledge of Swedish language is a competitive edge in the labour market
• is able to identify the differencies between the Scandinavian languages
• can communicate with ease in Swedish in working life situations
- develops his/her Swedish language proficiency and competences in information search in Swedish
Materials
The learning material is in Optima "Min svenska i Norden". Material done by the students.
Teaching methods
Self-regulated learning, working in gropus, information search, reflection on one´s own cultural experiences and background, self-reflection, experience sharing.
Exam schedules
This course is completed through assignments and writing a learning diary during the course. There is no exam.
International connections
Instructed independent work; student has an active role in searching information. Assignments are based on working life demands. Students work also in groups by sharing information and learning from each other. Self-assessment, peer evaluation, learning diary.
Student workload
Study in the Nordic countries: to present your own school and studies, to tell about your practise period / summerjob, to get acquainted with education system in some other Nordic Country (weeks 19-20)
Work in the Nordic countries: To get a job: pitching, LinkedIn profile, orientation of the new employee, to get acquainted with people working in Swedish in the Nordic countries (weeks 20-21)
Swedish Finland: Intervju of the importance of speaking Swedish at work (weeks 22-23)
Facts about the Nordic countries: To present a subject concering the Nordic countries (for example history, culture, economy, success stories, cultural similarities/differencies in the Nordic countries and so on). To tell about news in some Nordic coutry (weeks 23-24)
Travel in Nordic countries: To plan a trip to some Nordic country (not to Finland) + detailed programme, to present your own hometown (weeks 24-25).
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
100 % approved assignments. The student has an active role during the course and she/he returns the assingments in time.
Content scheduling
Before starting this course the student needs to have done the oblicatory course in Swedish needed in her/his own school.

The course is divided in five modules which are done in Optima environment.
Study in the Nordic countries: to present your own school and studies, to tell about your practise period / summerjob, to get acquainted with education system in some other Nordic Country (weeks 19-20)

The course environment will open on May 1st. Weekly assignments during the 1 st of May and the 16th of June. The course equals approximately 133 hours of student work.
Further information
Student places are divided between Turku University of Applied Sciences, so that 15 students are accepted from Turku University of Applied Sciences and 20 students are accepted from other Universities of Applied Sciences.

Assessment methods and criteria
All the assignments (oral and written) must be done by the deadlines and must be approved. Learning diary will be written during the course. Weekly assignments. Grading is based on teacher evaluation, self-assessment and peer evaluation.
The course will be graded after the 16th of June.
