Objective

After completing the course the student can:

Describe what Digitalisation is,how it affectsbusiness and which new opportunities it may enable
Describe what Big Data, Internet of Things (IOT), Internet of Everything and other concepts and trends related to Digitalisation are, and which Information Security challenges Digitalisation may introduce.
Create innovation proposals for new solutions using technologies available for Digitalisation and cloud-based solutions.

Content

Introduction to topics in Digitalisation
Status and forecast for Digitalisation
Technologies

Materials

Material (videos, articles, etc) from the internet, available via the learning environments (mainly ITS).
Most of the assignments, exercises and exam are done in ViLLE.

Teaching methods

Students work both individually and collaborate virtually in the learning environments.
Students also participate in the workshops.
Students self-study topics related to digitalisation, create reports and make presentations for the workshops.
Reports and presentations are peer-reviewed.
There is an exam during the course to verify students' learning.

Lectures about selected topics.

Student workload

Personal work: self-study and assignments: 120 hours
- discussions about selected videos
- writing about topics related to digitalisation
- exercises about key subjects related to digitalisation
- writing two reports about subjects related to digitalisation
- preparation of a presentation about one subject report
- peer reviews
Workshops: 9 hours
Exam and exam preparation: 3 hours
TOTAL: 132 hours

Content scheduling

The course provides an understanding of digital concepts and technologies and how digitalisation affects us.
The start-up workshop of the course takes place in January 14th.
The course is arranged mostly online.
However, there are workshops where students work on the campus as well and present what they have studied:
- Technology workshop, March 4th
- Technology workshop, March 25th
- Final workshop, April 8th

Further information

The open university's (avoin AMK) quota for the course is 20 places.

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation is based on:
- Assignments completed: 25%
- Exam: 25%
- Teacher's and peer reviews of the reports and the presentation: 25%
- Discussions about specific videos and themes: 25%

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

Student has completed less than 50% of the course assignments
AND did not pass the exam
OR peer reviews of the reports and the presentation on average less than 50% of points.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Student has completed more than 50% of the assignments BUT not all the assignment steps
AND achieved 50% points in the exam
AND points achieved from the peer reviews less than most of the students
AND low activity compared to others in discussion areas and writings of themes

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Student has completed all the assignment steps and completed 75% of the tasks in the steps
AND achieved 70% points in the exam
AND points achieved from the peer reviews at least on the average level
AND average activity compared to others in discussion areas and writings of themes

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Student has completed all the assignment steps and completed 90% of the tasks in the steps
AND achieved 85% points in the exam
AND points achieved from the peer reviews more than most of the students
AND high activity compared to others in discussion areas and writings of themes
