Sisällön jaksotus
- Cleanroom Technology: weeks 41-45
- Planning of Biotechnological Production: weeks 45-49
NB! In mid-September it will be decided whether the module continues in October as conventional implementation (online, in class or as hybrid) or as a research work implementation. This is due to uncertainty regarding the final number of students participating and Covid-19 situation. If the decision is to continue with the research work implementation, separate instructions are provided on Week 39 at the latest.
NB! If the research work implementation will be the final one for the module from the beginning of October onwards, you get 3 ECTS for the Part 1 of "Biomaterials Manufacturing Processes" for the online implementation, but 12 ECTS from the research work implementation (2 ECTS for Part 2 of "Biomaterials Manufacturing Processes" , 5 ECTS for "Biotechnological Production", and 5 ECTS for "Methods in Biotechnology").
In the research work implementation, a separate learning agreement is signed, and separate instructions are provided for reporting and integration of theory into the reports. The reporting consists of an individual report and 2-3 group reports, 1-2 intermediate group reports in November and/or December, and the final group report in January 2021. 1-2 intermediate group report(s) will be combined into the final report. In December, each participant will also return an individual report on the theory part of the course. The absolute final deadline for the final report is 31 January 2021, and there is no possibility to raise the grade or to return the report later. However, if you want feedback on your report before the deadline, you have to return you report 15 January 2021 at the latest, and you will get within 10 days some comment to correct or improve the report.
Tavoitteet

Oppimateriaalit
The group tasks are based on scientific articles/patents and lecture materials provided in Optima. The individual task is based on the oral reports of the other groups, notes made in class, and in complementary information retrieval.
Opetusmenetelmät
Team-based learning in groups (same groups in the both parts of the course) resolving a Group Task, Individual tasks to complement Group Tasks and summarise the group tasks of the other groups. Group presentation both for substance and communication skills, Task reports & presentations in Finnish or English, Multiple Choice Exam one of the tasks, which is directly related to the Group and Individual Tasks. Information retrieval from Journal and Patent databases is a part of the tasks.
Clean-room demo and dressing exercise.
Tenttien ajankohdat ja uusintamahdollisuudet
No actual course exam, but a multiple choice exam as one of the tasks.
Pedagogiset toimintatavat ja kestävä kehitys
Team-based learning in student groups (if international students, they are placed in multinational groups) by resolving tasks, Real company examples in background materials, Teachers plan the content together (same pedagogic principle in both parts). Information retrieval from journal and patent databases has a central role.
Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat
2-4 students may conduct the course by working in the the research group (New Materials and Processes). This type of the implementation has to be agreed separate with the instructors (Mika Jokinen).
Opiskelijan ajankäyttö ja kuormitus
The evaluation is based on 5 tasks : Cleanroom Technology part include 2 Group Tasks and Biotechnological Production 2 tasks (1 Group Task & 1 Individual Task / part) = 4 tasks altogether. The 5th task is a Multiple Choice Exam (MCE) covering boths parts of the course. The questions in the MCE are based on the other tasks and provided material. NB! The MCE is only one of the tasks, i.e., passing the MCE does not mean that the whole course is completed. There is no course exam, i.e., all tasks have to be completed and accepted to pass.
The emphasis is in the team-based learning by solving tasks in the groups.
