Contact lessons on Tuesdays at 16.15 - 17.45 at Kupittaa campus.

This course is designed for Exchange Students. The course is a nice way to get to know Finnish language and Finnish everyday life. After the course students understand basic structures in the Finnish language and are able to cope in everyday situations on CEFR level A1.2.

Students will be able to introduce themselves, ask simple questions and answer to them. The focus is in spoken language.

Introduction to Finnish, pronunciation, everyday phrases in Finnish, basic grammar, vocabulary, such as nationalities, food, colours, numbers, hobbies etc.

Tavoitteet

This course is designed for exchange students. The course is a fun way to get to know Finnish language and Finnish everyday life. After the course students understand basic structures in the Finnish language and are able to cope in everyday situations.
 
Student will be familiar with Finnish as a language (grammar, structure, basic features). S/he is able to introduce himself, able to ask simple questions and answer to them.

Oppimateriaalit

Material provided in the course platform Itslearning and in class.

Opetusmenetelmät

Lessons onsite and practice in groups. Active participation (student must attend at least 80% of the lessons) in the classroom activities, such as speaking excercises in pairs / small groups.

Working with assignments online in the learning platform Itslearning. Also tasks to do in real life situations.

Tenttien ajankohdat ja uusintamahdollisuudet

Oral exam in the last week of the course.
No right to retake the exam without special justification and agreement with the teacher.

Pedagogiset toimintatavat ja kestävä kehitys

The focus is in spoken language and learning by doing. In the classroom, practical language skills will be practised for students´use. Both the learning materials and the homework after each lesson support the learning.

Classroom activities + Oral exam 20 h

Assignments in Itslearning: written/oral assignments, group works and research in internet, using the language in real life, independent studies 60 h.

All together appr. 80 h of studies

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet

Oral exam (0-5), oral assignments (accepted/failed) of which 2 assignments evaluated by grade 0-5.

All the assignments must be done to get the credits for the course. Lesson attendance also affects the grade.

All the course assignments or the oral exam have not been completed successfully or they haven't been completed by the deadline agreed with the teacher. The student has not participated actively enough (80 %) in contact lessons.

The student has completed the oral exams and all the assignments by the deadline agreed with the teacher and has participated actively enough (80 %) in contact lessons.
The student’s pronunciation make their speech difficult to understand. The student can use very little vocabulary and basic structures of Finnish. Errors leading to misunderstanding occur often, and the pronunciation still needs to be practiced. The student has completed the given assignments alone without group or pair work.
The student’s skills are not aligned with the learning objectives of the course.

Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3-4)

The student has completed the oral exam and all the assignments by the deadline agreed with the teacher and has participated actively (80 %) in contact lessons.
The student’s pronunciation is mostly understandable even though some errors leading to misunderstanding may occur. The student is able to produce language and use basic structures to meet the demands of simple everyday life situations, even though some minor errors may occur.
The student’s skills are quite well aligned with the course objectives.

Arviointikriteerit, kiitettävä (5)

The student has completed the oral exam and all the assignments in time by the deadline agreed with the teacher and has participated very actively (90 % or more) in contact lessons.
The student’s pronunciation is accurate. The student is able to produce language and use basic structures to meet the demands of everyday life situations.
The student’s skills are very well aligned with or beyond the course objectives.
