Tavoitteet

This course is an advanced undergraduate-level introduction to the Water Energy Food Nexus (WEFN). The WEFN is defined as the recognition that the three key resources supporting humanity — water, energy, and food — are inextricably linked. The WEFN is the understanding that actions impacting one resource will inevitably have impacts on the other resources. In this class, we will explore fundamental and applied aspects of the WEFN from a global perspective. We will explore the WEFN in the context of the global ecosystem and global environmental challenges including population growth and climate change. We will investigate the details of the WEFN using specific examples from a variety of countries in both the Southern and Northern hemispheres. The function and challenges of water resources management in the context agricultural and energy production will be explored in detail.
