Objective

The course gives skills and knowledge needed in design and production tasks of ship projects in interior and deck areas. The student understands system schemes and diagrams and understands their purpose as well as can produce some simple system diagrams. Importance of SOLAS and classification society rules is explained and examples how to apply these in practice are given. Selection and applications of components and materials in areas concerned are covered.

The course concentrates in subjects that are important for turnkey and component suppliers, i.e. technology and materials in accommodation areas. Systems covered are mooring, ventilation and air conditioning, Fire extinguishing as well as other water and piping systems. Special attention is paid to understanding the purpose and the function of the systems. Rules and regulation are discussed concentrating in structural fire protection and safety.
The most important components and materials in interior areas are introduced as well as modular production in areas concerned. Information flow and management are briefly explained from designers point of view.

Content scheduling

The course handles subjects about ship interior and deck outfitting as well as HVAC . Subjects include for example fire fighting equipment, anchoring and mooring systems, HVAC systems. The perspective is mostly taken from the turnkey and component suppliers.

Safety, rules and regulations are also included from the interior and deck outfitting's perspective.

Assessment methods and criteria

Course grade will be formed from the exam and exercise points.

Exam is 60% of the course points
- Interior and deck outfitting 60% of the exam points
- HVAC 40 % of the exam points
Exercises are 40% of the course points
- Interior and deck outfitting 60% of the exercise points
- HVAC 40 % of the exercise points

The course grade is formed by the collected points from the exercises and exam.

The grade limits are from the maximum points as follows:
35% points = 1
47% points = 2
59% points = 3
72% points = 4
85% points = 5

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

The collected points from the exercises and exam are under 35% from the maximum amount.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Grade 1: The collected points from the exercises and exam are over 35% but under 47% from the maximum amount.

Grade 2: The collected points from the exercises and exam are over 47% but under 59% from the maximum amount.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Grade 3: The collected points from the exercises and exam are over 59% but under 72% from the maximum amount.

Grade 4: The collected points from the exercises and exam are over 72% but under 85% from the maximum amount.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Grade 5: The collected points from the exercises and exam are over 85% from the maximum amount.
